LeBron James may be considered one of the greatest basketball players ever because of his skills, but he would never be as good as he is without a strategy. It is important that LeBron develop a certain strategy for guarding different opponents. Not every NBA player who comes up against him plays the same so he must strategize on the most effective ways to play his best game while shutting down his competition. The same goes for the “benchwarmers” who sit anxiously awaiting their turn to get into the game. They also have to have a strategy when they become the next man or woman up.
Just like athletes we, too, need to come up with a strategy in order to win in the game of life. Unfortunately, many of us spend way too much time complaining about what we don’t have, what we can’t do, or why someone else seems to be better off.
In his book: BENCHWARMER: What to Do When You’re on the Bench of Life, Ammishaddai Grand-Jean offers tips on what you should be doing while you’re waiting for your time to shine. Online he’s known as “Ammishaddai: The B.S Guy” (Benchwarmer Specialist). I was surprised that this millennial author taught this senior citizen a thing or two about my own lack of strategy and what I need to do to keep moving forward.
I am not in the business of promoting books but this is one I highly recommend. It is easy to read and is definitely food for thought. I encourage you to purchase a copy and read it a couple of times a year–or when you feel stuck in a rut. It will definitely inspire you to get off the bench! You can purchase the book in my Amazon Store. (Stay tuned for an upcoming contest involving the book).
